Rental Assistance Office (RAO)

As the director of rental assistance for the Springfield Housing Authority, Joseph D’Ascoli oversees nearly 2,600 Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers, working with landlords and tenants for seamless transitions into housing that is privately owned across Springfield.

D’Ascoli, who has been running the Section 8 program for the past 10 years, is vice president of the Massachusetts division of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials. He also serves on the Board of Commissioners of the East Longmeadow Housing Authority. He is president of the Section 8 Administrators Association of Massachusetts, a member of the MassNAHRO Leased Housing Committee and Legislative Committee, and vice president for member services of the New England Regional Council of NAHRO.

He has been a dedicated employee of the Springfield Housing Authority for 20 years. As director of rental assistance, he is charged with management of all Section 8 subsidies and another 229 tenant and project-based Massachusetts Rental Vouchers.

D’Ascioli’s expertise in leased housing programs makes him a valuable asset for the SHA as well as for the city. His dedication to the job is always evident.

“I love helping people, and making sure there are roofs over families’ heads,” D’Ascoli said. “I see this program as a stepping stone for people who need help. Our hope is that they get on their feet in a few years and give up their voucher to someone else in need.”
